My Passion…A Message from Founder, Joan Kamholz

In 2007, as I was planning my retirement from 30 years of law enforcement, I heard four words that changed my life forever, “You have breast cancer”.

My entire world came to sudden halt. My joyous planning and excitement came to a end while I took on, one more fight! But I wasn’t going to let cancer take control of my life, I kicked cancer’s butt………and in July 2007, I retired as planned from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

At an early age I was driven to the law enforcement field because I wanted to “help others and make a difference”. As law enforcement officers we take the oath to serve and protect, it becomes part of who we are, on or off the job, active or retired, we carry it with us forever.

In 2008, I started Justice for a Cure as a way for the law enforcement family to get more involved with the community by, educating, bringing awareness, supporting survivors and those going through their journey, honoring those taken, and raising funds to support local cancer programs, and support cancer research to find the cures for cancer.

I hope you will join our Justice for a Cure program to show the compassionate side of law enforcement by working with other police agencies, firefighters, EMS, 911 Call Centers, schools, businesses, city, county, state, and federal government, together we CAN make a difference. I will NEVER give up the FIGHT!

I will NEVER give up, and I hope you won’t either!
